Wem Jubilee Band
We are pleased to welcome back our own Town band to perform again in this year’s carnival.
They will once again lead the parade and provide us with the fanfare at the crowning
of the Carnival Queen at the Gala field plus 20 minutes of entertainment for us to enjoy.
Wem Jubilee Band can trace it’s roots back as far as the 1930’s but was formed under the
name of Wem Jubilee Band around the time of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and have
been highly successful ever since being crowned Midland Area Regional Champions
and National Finalists in 2002 and 2007.
Oldham Scottish Pipe Band
Returning by popular demand. The Oldham Scottish Pipe Band was formed in 1926 by Scottish pipers who arrived in Oldham to work in the cotton industry. The band is still going strong performing all over the country and winning many awards.
Bootle & District Concertina Band
Another firm favourite of Wem Carnival. The Bootle & District Concertina Band was formed in 1958 playing concertinas, drums, bell lyres and cymbals. Their repertoire consists of both traditional and modern music
Newtown Minstrals
This Marching Band formed in Powys just over 10 years ago
and their motto is to have fun. We look forward to them bringing their fun and enthusiasm to Wem Carnival.
Newtown Youth Marching Corps
This talented group of young peple have travelled to Ireland, Holland and Belgium with their music. Their instruments include glockenspiels, bellias, tenor, snare and bass drums.
Ifton Brass Band
Based in Oswestry and founded in 1916, the Ifton Brass Band now focus on the talents of younger members.
Tividale Tigers
Tividale Tigers are a colourful dance troupe who are becoming a favourite addition to our parade.
Karamba Samba
Based in Chester, Karamba Samba has been performing, running workshops and spreading the word about samba in the Chester area for several years. They are a band of around 20 players from all walks of life, all passionate and proud of the music they make together. We look forward to them bringing their wonderful carnival music to our parade.
Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers
The Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers were formed in 1936. Their uniform consists of Grenadier Guard style red tunics ,white trousers with a red stripe and Bearskin type hats. Their evening procession promises to use over 300 coloured bulbs placed strategically on parts of their uniform. All of their members are taught how to march, drill with a replica rifle and to play a band instrument from a choice of trumpets, euphoniums, baritones, saxophones, slide trombones, tenor horns, bell lyres, side drums, tenor drums, cymbals and bass drum.
Cheshire & North Wales Dance Association
We are delighted to welcome back the colourful dance troupes managed by Nick Hughes. They will be holding their own dance competitions on the Gala field for spectators enjoyment.
Leila Bennett Falconry
Following last year’s successful display, we are pleased to welcome back Leila and her falconry display team.
